Minutes and Action Items
Taking formal minutes is a matter of personal or group choice. An advantage of minutes is that they create a consistent written record. A disadvantage is it takes time to do a thorough job. If good minutes are expected but not published regularly it may affect the members’ view of the value of the meetings.
We recommend the group agree on a standard template (such as the one in the example below) and have it available for a designated note taker during the meeting. The completed document can be sent out quickly after the meeting. This form can be used to record and assign action items, even if it is not used to take minutes.
Whether or not there minutes are distributed, we recommend you make your personal note taking a top priority.
